Why Erections Fail?

As we are all aware, we move our body parts with the help of muscles which contract and relax causing movement. In the case of penis, muscle contractions do not take place as there is no supporting bone structure. Hence the body applies pressure technique for the penis to become erect.

Physiology of the Penis:

The major muscle present in the Penis is the Corpora Cavernosa. This muscle is present as two cylindrical muscle bands extending to the tip of the penis. There are arteries and veins filled in these muscles. In the normal limp position, the blood is carried in through the arteries and carried out through the veins as per the normal body pressure.

When sexual stimulation starts and the man is aroused, blood rushes to the penis and the arteries open up to accommodate the pressurized inflow of blood. Due to the pressure of inflow the veins get restricted and narrow hence the outflow reduces. There is a pressure build up in the penis with the blood trapped inside the arteries and hence the penis elongates and stiffens to cause Erection.

Causes for Erectile Dysfunction:

– If psychological factors like tension, stress prevent the initial arousal process
– If the person is ill or physically weak and cannot respond to stimulation
– When there is poor blood flow to the penis
– When the arteries do not open up to accommodate more blood flow

Hence for an Effective Erection the arteries need to be opened up and blood flow to the penis should increase. In case of psychological and physiological factors necessary measures should be taken to improve the mental and physical health of the person.

Role of the Brain:

Brain controls the blood flow in the body by sending signals through nerves to the valves which control blood flow to the arteries and veins. The signals are sent through nerve fibres which end in nerve cells present in the arteries and veins. When the brain sends signals in response to sexual stimulation, the nerve endings inject nitric oxide into the blood and surrounding cells in the arteries.

The nitric oxide acts on the surrounding cells and stimulates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase. This enzyme starts producing a chemical called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This chemical makes the muscles of the artery to relax thereby expanding enough to allow increased blood flow.

Simultaneously there is another enzyme called phosphodiesterase (PDE) which has the function of deactivating the cGMP.
As the brain continues to send signals, the nitric oxide helps the cycle to continue ie, cGMP relaxes muscles to increase the blood flow, while the PDE continues deactivating the cGMP. Once the stimulation stops, brain stops sending signals and nitric oxide cycle is turned off. Then cGMP production stops and PDE deactivates remaining cGMP and the blood flow stops.

Generally in the condition of Erectile Dysfunction the cycle functions properly to the stage where nitrci oxide is released. However, there is not enough cGMP produced to relax the muscle and increase the blood flow. Hence the man experiences stimulation and arousal but does not experience erection as blood flow is not turned on by cGMP.

How do Herbs help in improving Erectile Functioning?

Xanthoparmelia scabrosa, Cnidium Monnier and certain other herbs are popularly used in herbal supplements to enhance sexual performance and reduce erectile dysfunction. However among all these herbs Xanthoparmelia scabrosa deserves to be truly called the Herbal Viagra due to its amazing action in improving sexual performance.

Xanthoparmelia scabrosa’s active chemicals disrupt PDE-5, the enzyme which deactivates cGMP. Thus the cGMP produced remains in the arteries and relaxes the muscle thereby increasing the blood flow resulting in a healthy erection. As long as the effect of the herbal supplement exists the process continues and normalcy of blood flow is restored once the effect wears off.
This chemical process or action of the herb is very similar to that of Viagra. Thus the name Herbal Viagra. However the greatest benefit is that Herbal Viagra does not have side effects and is absolutely safe for use in recommended quantities. Also there are no reports of dependency [addiction] on continued use of the herb.

Awareness is the first step to improvement. Now that you are aware of the physiology of the penis, the mechanism of the sexual stimulation and erection function besides learning that the herbs act in a simple & safe way to provide solution for your problem, go ahead and enjoy the benefits of Herbal Viagra without worrying about any side-effects.
